What are Bonus Classes?
On occasion an instructor misses the deadline for getting a class into the catalog or gets inspired to teach in the middle of a quarter… or a visitor comes to town that could teach the most awesome class but getting the word out quickly might be a challenge. And then there are those classes that are so successful that we want to hold another one right away! Well, we have created a way to promote those classes…BONUS CLASSES!!!

Starting out on fiddle gets a bad rap. The big secret is that squeaks are usually a side-effect of not playing confidently enough, or of missing a few key technical points that are actually fairly simple to master. Let’s get you started making beautiful, confident sounds as quickly as possible, with a posture that supports your long-term health, so you can start making treble in your neighborhood. (Yes, I went there!)

Instructor’s Fee: $50

(SPR13-107b-OC) Geology & Salmon – Guided Hike on the Baker River Trail
Dave Tucker
June 8th, 8:30 – 4 pm
Must register by June 4th or Call WFS
The first Mount Baker Volcano Research Center geology field trip of 2013 will be on Saturday June 8th. We will hike the Baker River Trail, a moderate, five-mile round trip south of Mount Shuksan. All are welcome on this fun hike through old growth on the valley floor into North Cascades National Park. The trail is moderate, with only a couple of minor ups and downs. There is one short, optional off-trail side trip to see a waterfall that is hundreds of feet high and the bedrock it flows over. Trip leaders are Dave Tucker, Doug McKeever, and Sue Madsen. Highlights include:
Shuksan greenschist (subducted metamorphosed seafloor basalt), the local bedrock; The plate tectonics that brought those rocks onto the continent, and the uplift that exposes them at the surface; a tour of salmon population restoration facilities in the Baker River valley; an active alluvial fan exposed in cross section; river erosion and deposition; a great variety of rocks in river bars; a fantastic ‘faerie forest’ of lichen-draped maples; If the weather be good- great views into the heart of the North Cascades.
Fisheries ecologist and stream restoration specialist Sue Madsen (one of the MBVRC board of directors) will tell us about how juvenile salmon are captured on Baker Lake and transported down the valley for release below the two hydroelectric dams. We’ll visit the new facilities built to improve this system.
Registration Fee: $15 (Min. # of couples: 1; Max. 10.)
Instructors Fee: $60; Material fee: $0

Quick Quiz: 1. Name 3 of the ligaments that support your womb. 2. Where does the womb sit relative to the bladder? 3. How much does your womb weigh? If these questions stump you, come talk, laugh, play with clay, and go home with empowering knowledge and a hand-sculpted model womb. This knowledge may lead to wiser medical and fertility choices, improved experience of menstruation, and maybe even improvement in your sex life (no promises, but come find out!).
Registration Fee: $15 (Min. # of couples: 3; Max. 8.)
Instructors Fee: $0; Material fee: $10

KapKa School Quote
I can't help but wonder what it would be like to live in a world where people actually lived by the ideals on a sign posted at KapKa
Because we care about each other and our school,
We share what we have,
We listen carefully,
We help each other learn,
We work hard,
We have fun together,
And we make sure everyone is included.
We understand that everyone makes mistakes,
That we stand up for ourselves and others,
And that when someone asks us to stop, we stop..
This is who we are and
This is what we do,
Even when no one is watching.
